TERMS AND CONDITIONS for camper rental from Campervans New Zealand Ltd.


1.1. All drivers must be 18 years or over.
1.2. All our campervans can be driven with a normal car licence.
1.3. A full resident country driver's licence must be presented at the time of campervan pick up for each nominated driver.
1.4. New Zealand law states if your overseas driver's licence is not fully translated into English you must carry an accurate translation (available from your local automobile association) or an international driver licence. This is your responsibility as the hirer.


2.1. You must not drive on 90 Mile beach (Northland). The sealed road up to Cape Reinga can be driven.
2.2. You must not drive or take the vehicle on any road, which is temporarily/permanently closed or restricted, or on beaches, through streams, dams, rivers and floodwaters.
2.3. You agree that the agreement is void, and you are liable for all associated costs of any repairs, towing and all damages if you do, regardless of which excess reduction option you have.


3.1. The day of pick up of the campervan is counted as day one of the rental period, regardless of pick up time.
3.2. The day of the campervans return is counted as the final day of the New Zealand campervan rental period.
3.3. Currency is New Zealand Dollars.
3.4. The price stated in the rental agreement includes Goods and Service Tax.


4.1. Once the hire of the campervan has commenced, there are no refunds for early return. On request Campervans New Zealand Ltd. can provide you with a letter for your travel insurance if you must return home early for an emergency. Campervans New Zealand Ltd. recommend you have travel insurance to cover unforeseen events that may cause the shortening of your rental.
4.2. If the hirer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, authorization of Campervans New Zealand Ltd. must be obtained first. This is subject to availability. Failure to obtain authorization will result in a set daily fee in addition to the daily rental rate. The rental extension amount will be charged to your credit card at the time of extension.


You must not
5.1. Smoke or allow animals in the campervan at any time.
5.2. Drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
5.3. Use the vehicle for illegal purposes.
5.4. Carry more people than is permitted in the campervan. This is determined by the seat belts available for passengers to be legally secured.
5.5. Make any alterations or additions to the campervan without prior written consent from Campervans New Zealand Ltd.
You must
5.6. Keep the campervan locked and the keys under your personal control at all times.
5.7. Ensure that all responsible care is taken in handling and parking the hired campervan.
5.8. Report all accidents, damages, maintenance and repairs immediately to Campervans New Zealand Ltd. If not reported within 24 hours an additional fee might be charged.
5.9. If traveling with children: the child restraint law stipulates that children under 7 must be properly restrained in an approved child restraint. It is the hirer's responsibility to ensure their child restraint or a hired child restraint is installed correctly.
5.10. Return the rental campervan to the place and at the time agreed on by both parties at the commencement of the hire. Campervans New Zealand Ltd. reserves the right to charge a set amount for late return.


6.1. All prices are in New Zealand Dollars.
6.2. A non-refundable deposit of 25% with a minimum of New Zealand Dollars 350.-- is required to secure a booking.
6.3. The balance is payable either before or the latest at commencement of hire.


7.1. Road user charges apply to all Diesel powered vehicles in New Zealand. The road user charges recovery fee will be calculated and collected on return of any diesel campervan based on the kilometers traveled during the hire and the actual vehicle category. The cost can be obtained from the customer service representative. Road user charges are subject to government changes. Campervans New Zealand Ltd. reserves the right to amend the road user charge recovery fee in response to changes in government road user charges.


8.1. The hirers are liable for any offence committed during the rental period including but not limited to fines for parking, speeding, toll road and any other offences.
8.2. Campervans New Zealand Ltd. reserves the right to charge the hire for all associated fines including administration costs and/or accident damage and associated administration cost including third party property.
8.3. Administration costs will be applicable per offence.


9.1. No extra cancellation fee applies to cancellations 60 days before commencement of hire. 50% of total rental costs apply to cancellations 59-30 days before commencement of hire. 100% cancellation fee of the total rental costs apply for cancellations 29-1 day before commencement of hire or no show.


10.1. Due care should be taken with the GPS device while rented. Do not leave the unit in sight when the vehicle is unattended.
10.2. The hirer is liable for total loss, missing or damage to the GPS unit, mount, charger and carry case.
10.3. The owner is not responsible for any harm, damage, loss or misadventure that occurs as a result of the use or misuse of the GPS unit.
10.4. The hirer agrees to follow all safety and usage guidelines provided by the manufacturer.


11.1. Our New Zealand campervans for rent and hire are maintained to the highest standard and thoroughly check through after every rental. But just in case we do provide you with a 24/7 emergency roadside assistance free call number to deal with mechanical breakdown. Any problems associated with the hired campervan must be reported to Campervans New Zealand Ltd. in Auckland as soon as practicable the latest within 24 hours on 021 262 3412 in order to give Campervans New Zealand Ltd. the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental.
11.2. Repairs to the hired campervan up to NZ$ 50.-- may be affected without authorization and will be reimbursed as long as the damage has not been caused by the hirer, driver or any other person. For amounts over NZ$ 50.-- Campervans New Zealand Ltd. will need to be informed in advance and has to give authorization on 021 262 3412.
11.3. Original Gst receipts for repairs/salvage must be kept and produced on return of the campervan to receive reimbursement.


If the customer is involved in a motor vehicle accident whilst on hire, the following procedures should be followed
12.1. At the accident scene the customer must obtain the names, addresses and details of third parties and any witnesses.
12.2. Report the accident to police, regardless of estimated damage costs.
12.3. Not accept blame or insist the other party is at fault.
12.4. If possible, photograph damage to all vehicle(s) and registration number(s).
12.5. The hirer must phone Campervans New Zealand Ltd. on 021 262 3412 with the accident details within 24 hours.
12.6. The customer must send the filled out insurance claim form, produce the police report (if applicable) and hand over any supporting photographs and documents.
12.7. The customer is required to pay the liability and any other amount due in respect of any damage arising from an accident, loss or damage. This amount is payable at the time of reporting "the event" and not a completion of the rental period.
12.8. The Campervans New Zealand Ltd. customer service representative will ensure the motor vehicle accident report is completed clearly and accurately signed by the customer.
12.9. Campervans New Zealand will use best endeavors to ensure that any money due back to the client is forward as quickly as possible. However as third party insurance is not compulsory in New Zealand third party claims can take months to resolve. The customer acknowledges that handling of the claims is up to Campervans New Zealand insurer and the third party, whether they are insured or not.


13.1. Full cover motor vehicle insurance is included in the daily hire rate.
13.2. The insurance excess depends on the age of the individual drivers and is NZ$ 1,050.-- for drivers 25 years and over, NZ$ 1,600.-- for drivers aged 21-24 years and NZ$ 2,100.-- for driver 18-20 years or if the driver does not hold a full driver licence for 12 months preceding the date of loss/damage.
13.3. The insurance excess as well as the reduction of the insurance excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.
13.4. The insurance excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time of the accident not at the completion of the rental. The excess will be refunded if recovering the cost of damages from the third party is successful.
13.5. Please see the "Exclusions" section below whereby all excess reduction cover will be made void.
13.6. The insurance excess will be refunded provided that
13.6.1. The campervan is returned to the agreed location at the agreed time
13.6.2. The campervan is returned in a reasonable clean condition
13.6.3. No damage to the campervan, belongings of Campervans New Zealand Ltd, third party or third party property was caused
13.6.4. The campervan is returned with the fuel levels marked on the damage sheet. Failure to return the campervan with the appropriate fuel levels as well as gas in cooker will result in refill charges. Petrol and Diesel refill charges will be advised upon return of vehicle.
13.6.5. Insurance exclusion in section 14 have not been violated.
13.6.6. All fines for offences including but not limited to traffic fines and toll road charges have been paid.


All excess reduction cover will be made void and the hirer is liable for the entire damage in the below cases.
14.1. The driver of the campervan is under the influence of alcohol or any drug that affects his/her ability to drive the camper.
14.2. The campervan is an unsafe or unroadworthy condition and the hirer or driver was aware or ought to have been aware of the unsafe or unroadworthy condition of the camper.
14.3. The campervan is operated in any race, speed test, rally or contest.
14.4. The hirer is not a body corporate or department of State.
14.5. The campervan is driven by any person not named in the "rental agreement".
14.6. The campervan is driven by any person who at the time of driving the camper is disqualified from holding or has never held a licence appropriate for that vehicle.
14.7. The campervan is willfully or recklessly damaged by the hirer or any other person named in the rental agreement or driving the campervan under the authority of the hirer, or is lost as a result of the willful or reckless behavior of the hirer or any such person.
14.8. The campervan is operated on any of the prohibited roads.
14.9. The campervan is operated outside the term of the hire or any agreed written extension of that term.
14.10. No water related damage is covered, which included but is not limited to a) any vehicle submersion b) creek or river crossing c) driving through low plain flooded areas
14.11. Personal belongings are not covered. Campervans New Zealand Ltd. recommends not to leave valuables in the campervan.
14.12. The incorrect use of fuel (Diesel or Petrol) is not covered. The hirer will be responsible for any associated costs.


15.1. Due to exchange rate fluctuations and/or bank transactions fees there could be some variances in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Campervans New Zealand Ltd. does not accept liability for variances up or down.
15.2. A 2.85% credit card fee applies for all Visa and Master card transactions.


16.1. If we elect not to exercise any of our rights arising as a result of a breach of this agreement you acknowledge that our election will not constitute a waiver of any rights relating to any subsequent or other breach.


17.1. If for any reasons beyond the control of Campervans New Zealand Ltd. the reserved campervan cannot be supplied on pick up a substitute will be offered. Should a substitute not be available the liability of Campervans New Zealand Ltd. is limited to a full refund of monies received by Campervans New Zealand Ltd.
17.2. You agree that we may refuse any rental, terminate this agreement and/or repossess the campervan at any time, without notification.
17.2.1. You will be liable for the cost of repossessing the campervan and any towing charges and administrative fees.


18.1. Illustrations and text in any of our brochure or web site are a representation only of the vehicle depicted. Variances in the vehicles offered for rent occur due to their individuality, modifications, substitutions, change of model and/or upgrades to the vehicle design.
18.2. Terms and Conditions as well as rates are subject to change without notice.
18.3. The hirer releases Campervans New Zealand Ltd., its employees and agents, from any liability to the hirer (regardless of who is at fault), for any loss or damage incurred by the hirer by reason of rental, possession or use of the vehicle. The hirer hereby indemnifies and shall keep indemnified the owner, its employees and agents, against any claims, demands and expenses (including legal costs) incurred or sustained by them or any of them by reason of the hirer's use and/or possession of the vehicle.
18.4. Campervans New Zealand Ltd. reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.
